For 6 years Phoenix Fashion Week has worked to bridge the gap between national and international designers with boutiques, media, retailers and fashion fans. The 3 day event will showcase 24 established designers, 6 designers and 10 emerging designers. The 10 emerging will compete for one prize that will set them up to follow their dreams in the fashion industry. Shantidas is one of those emerging designers who left home and gave up a “safe” career to follow her love of fashion.
Growing up in the Arizona desert Shantidas has always been creative doodling all over her friends’ hands from a young age. It was during high school where her spark lit for fashion design after her first sewing class. She fought against her teacher with their conservative sewing tactics but retained the information she needed most.
After a year at Arizona State University trying to go the direction that was expected of her, Shantidas followed her love of fashion design all the way to Milan, Italy. Her success at school shined through and after 3 years she obtained an internship for a year. Now she is back in the states and in the hopes of taking a vacation she found herself involved in Phoenix Fashion Week.
Shantidas is now creating her collection titled Amazon Falls for her Phoenix fashion debut in October. She found her inspiration through a photo of a waterfall after she already knew her excitement of the Amazon. An excitement that began in Milan that caused gallons of feather’s to be held up in customs in worry of bird flu contamination. Nope, just a fashion designer wanting to create a magnificent collection.
Shantidas prides herself in original work that hasn’t been seen. I was in awe by the art disguised as a skirt being constructed on her working table. Shantidas will like to continue creating original custom work that is customized to her customer’s personality. Her desire to know her clients personally is what will make her successful in this business.
You will find Shantida’s full collection on the runway’s of Phoenix Fashion Week October 7th to the 9th. Don’t miss this young designer showcase her work as her unique talent for creating custom designs will soon be coveted by all.
